How Do I Get Involved?
Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Calvary Baptist Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation.
Adult Bible Fellowships (ABF)
Adult Bible Fellowships take place during the children’s Sunday School time which follows the 9:30 morning worship service. ABF’s are offered for a variety of age groups. Click for more information.
AWANA
AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) is a children’s Bible club for ages 3 years to 6th grade. AWANA meets each Wednesday night during the school year from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Clubbers meet for Game Time, Handbook Time, and Council Time. Click for more information.
Calvary Christian Academy
Established in 1972, Calvary Christian Academy provides a quality Christian-focused education for children in pre-kindergarten through high school. Click for more information.
Care Ministry
This ministry is for those in our community who are needing financial assistance. Our vision for this ministry is to walk with those families in need, to help financially, to offer advice and spiritual guidance. Click for more information.
Children’s Church
In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Calvary holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons. After Children’s Church, the children go directly to Sunday School classes based on their age.
College Ministry
Gospel Community Groups (Small Groups) are the primary ministry focus for college students at Calvary. There are currently four small groups that are operating on a weekly basis. If you would like to know more or even get connected to a college small group, please fill out the registration form on the Gospel Community Group page and email Pastor Brian with any questions you might have. Click for more information.
Counseling
Life can be tough and where can you turn for answers. Calvary’s Pastoral staff is ready and willing to help you with any counseling needs you may have whether it may be marriage, addictions, or anything else. We also offer Divorce Care and Grief Share groups during the year. Divorce Care meets on Thursday nights at 6:30 and Grief Share meets on Wednesday nights at 6:00. Developmentally Disabled Adult Ministry
Each Sunday this group meets for Sunday School, where they are taught the elementary principles of God’s Word. Activities such as cookouts, Christmas parties, and picnics are highlights each year.
Divorce Care
Divorce Care is a special weekly seminar and support group for people who are separated or divorced. This group meets Thursdays at 6:30pm in the Upper Fireside Room. For more information, contact the church office.

Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Calvary Baptist Church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. All of our weekly services are uploaded to our website in video and audio formats. We also maintain an active Facebook page for additional church communication.
Men’s Ministries
The Calvary Baptist men’s ministries exist to encourage men in Christ and to equip them for the roles in which they are called to serve. Men meet for Men’s Prayer Breakfast every Saturday at 7:00am in the Upper Fireside Room. Events include weekend retreats and work projects.
Mornings Out for Moms
Mornings Out for Moms provides children from six weeks to five years of age the opportunity to obtain socialization skills and to participate in learning activities in a caring, Christian environment. The program is in session from 8:30 to 11:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning in September through May. Click for more information.
Missions
Calvary Baptist Church is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We are active in sending missionaries and supporting these missionaries with our money and with our prayers. We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community. Calvary also offers several mission trips during the year. Click here for more information.
Music & Drama
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music and drama ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. Still others get involved in drama. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.
Nursery
For every church service, a nursery is provided from newborns to 3 years old. Volunteers are scheduled once a month. Click for Nursery Schedule.
Small Groups (Gospel Community Groups)
We gather in community groups with our friends and neighbors to live life together and experience the gospel in ways we can’t on our own. They are a place to wrestle with the truths of the Bible, love one another, serve the city, and participate in the mission of God for Bloomington, Normal. Click for more information.
Upward
Upward is an evangelistic sports ministry designed for K5 through sixth grade boys and girls that promotes salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child. Upward at Calvary consists of a basketball and cheerleading league. Participants will be involved in 11 practices and 8 games from the beginning of December until the beginning of March. Ushers/Greeters
The usher team at Calvary fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.
Women’s Ministries
The purpose of Calvary’s women’s ministries is to lead women to the heart of God through the GRACE of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; to build up and equip each woman by means of the TRUTH of God’s Word; and to be a COMMUNITY of women engaged in true fellowship, passionate prayer and world-wide impact. Special events are offered for fun and connection. These include activities such as the Mother’s Day brunch, Ladies Night Out, women’s retreats, ladies’ game nights, and much more. The Women’s Connection Hour meets on Thursdays at 10:00am in the Upper Fireside Room for prayer.
Youth Ministry
Our prayer and desire is to glorify God by seeing lives changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. The student ministry of Calvary Baptist Church seeks to see students connect with others in gospel-centered relationships, to see students grow in their relationship with Jesus, and to raise up a generation of students who give of themselves for others.
